The second-hand marketplace Members Share Displeasure About Size Changes
Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has altered its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel failing to inform all users about the change.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category than originally posted because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches other platforms.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and manually change the size where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Changes
Before the change, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she stated.
Service Background
The service features exceeding 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: last year, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
